Voici une revisite de la Stingray.

On reste sur la même base que pour la Music Man mais avec un manche plus fin et un poids plus léger.

Les choix effectués :

Du paulownia pour le corps. Ses caractéristiques sonores sont identiques au frêne des marais, un son ouvert avec des fréquences aiguës bien présentes mais légèrement arrondies. Le son ... sans le poids.

Un chevalet Hipshot KickAss, le tribute au légendaire Leo Quan BadAss II. Les mêmes qualités que l'original : amélioration de l'attaque, du sustain et des notes mieux définies. Le petit plus, les inserts en laiton arrondissent l'attaque. 

Un micro manche Mama Split Bucker Reverse, le son Precision dans un format soapbar. Dans ce cas-ci, la version reverse permet de garder les graves dans la position standard d'une Precision Bass. Ce qui donne des basses précises et des aiguës plus rondes.

Un micro chevalet Mama PunchMan Omnia, pour un son typé Music Man mais plus compressé et plus puissant que l'original. Cablé en série, il fait ressurgir tout le mordant des moyennes fréquences. La série Omnia permet de splitter le micro vers un vrai simple bobinage type Jazz Bass. Il devient alors un Mama Modern Jazz avec des aimants plus gros et un niveau de sortie plus élevé. Il a une attaque plus "douce" tout en gardant un son épais et un bas medium complexe. 

La bobine du split est celle côté manche ce qui donne un placement de micro simple chevalet entre une Jazz Bass 60' et une Rickenbacker.

La basse est passive.

Le potentiomètre de volume est un push/pull. Il permet d'activé un coupe grave sur le micro chevalet à la façon des vieilles Rickenbacker.

Pour le tone, il est câblé sur la sortie du volume ce qui le fait d'abord fonctionner comme un "gain", en diminuant d'abord les moyennes avant de couper les aiguës.

Un profile de manche moins large et plus fin basé sur une Jazz Bass.

La touche a un radius de 11" et des frettes moyennes en acier inoxydable.

Un truss rod double action et des renforts de manche en paulownia pour un réglage fin et une stabilité de manche parfaite.

Pour le bois du manche, le choix s'est fixé sur de l'acajou, pour son visuel et ses caractéristiques sonores. L'acajou donne une certaine rondeur tout en gardant des fréquences équilibrées. Ajoutez-y une touche en palissandre indien qui apporte juste un peu de rondeur et vous obtenez le bon équilibre.

Le résultat est un instrument ultra réactif, polyvalent et léger... avec ses 2,8 kg.

Here is a revisit of the Stingray.

We stay on the same base as for the Music Man but with a thinner neck and a lighter weight.

The choices made :

Paulownia for the body. Its sound characteristics are identical to swamp ash, an open sound with high frequencies very present but slightly rounded. The sound ... without the weight.

A Hipshot KickAss bridge, the tribute to the legendary Leo Quan BadAss II. The same qualities as the original: improved attack, sustain and better defined notes. The brass inserts round out the attack.

A Mama Split Bucker Reverse neck pickup, the Precision sound in a soapbar format. In this case, the reverse version keeps the bass in the standard position of a Precision Bass. Which gives precise bass and rounder treble.

A Mama PunchMan Omnia bridge pickup, for a Music Man sound but more compressed and more powerful than the original. Wired in series, it brings out all the bite of the mid frequencies. The Omnia series allows you to split the pickup to a real single coil Jazz Bass type. It then becomes a Mama Modern Jazz with bigger magnets and a higher output level. It has a "softer" attack while keeping a thick sound and a complex low midrange.

The split coil is the one on the neck side which gives a single bridge pickup placement between a Jazz Bass 60' and a Rickenbacker.

The bass is passive.

The volume potentiometer is a push/pull. It allows you to activate a low cut on the bridge pickup like the old Rickenbacker.

For the tone, it is wired to the volume output which makes it work first as a "gain" and first reduces the mids before cutting the treble.

A narrower and thinner neck profile based on a Jazz Bass. The fingerboard has an 11" radius and medium stainless steel frets.

A double action truss rod and paulownia neck reinforcements for fine tuning and perfect neck stability.

For the neck wood, the choice was fixed on mahogany, for its visual and sound characteristics. Mahogany gives a certain roundness while keeping balanced frequencies. Add an Indian rosewood fingerboard that brings just a little roundness and you get the right balance.

The result is an ultra responsive, versatile and lightweight instrument... with it's 2.8 kg.
